Lessons from the boat
Learn on an empty reef, not in a crowd.
Most lessons in south Lombok happen on the same stretch of Kuta beach, with fifty other people learning at the same time. We take you twenty-five minutes across to Ekas Bay, where the inside section is soft, forgiving and almost always uncrowded.
Wherever you're starting from
Never stood up
You start on the inside at Ekas, where the wave breaks over sand-covered reef and rolls rather than throws. The coach pushes you into the first ones and is next to you for the rest. Most people are riding whitewater within the first hour and standing on a green wave by the end of the second session.
You can stand, not much else
The awkward stage, and the one a crowded beach break makes worse. On a reef with four people out instead of forty, you get waves to yourself and time to think between them. We work on paddling early, popping up before the wave has you, and looking where you're going.
You surf, you want to surf better
Reading the reef, picking the right peak, and taking off steeper than feels comfortable. The boat sits on the shoulder so you can rest without paddling back in, which is how you get four hours of useful surfing instead of ninety minutes of exhaustion.

It happens on most trips: one of you takes the lesson on the inside, the other surfs the outside, or snorkels, or sits on the boat with a coffee and watches. Same boat, same price, nobody waiting in a car park.
